John Paul Carmona
Chef de Cuisine

Manresa’s Chef de Cuisine John Paul Carmona developed a strong connection with food and it's source at an early age. Born and raised in San Salvador, El Salvador, he grew up helping his father at his farm, and learning to cook as he watched his grandmother—“a great cook”—prepare meals during her family visits. After graduating from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, he worked at Clio in Boston, Alinea in Chicago, and Mugaritz in San Sebastián, Spain. He was chosen to join the Johnson & Wales team at the IKA International Culinary Olympics in Germany, and he has appeared on Food Network’s Iron Chef America, assisting Manresa Chef David Kinch to clinch victory over Bobby Flay. During his tenure, Manresa has been awarded two Michelin stars for the fourth consecutive year by The Michelin Guide. In 2010, he was named one of San Francisco Chronicle's Rising Star Chefs, and one of StarChefs.com's San Francisco Bay Area Rising Stars.
